“How might we engage university students in supporting Banco Alimentare’s food mission, fostering positive change through volunteering?”
Goal
The primary goal of the NutriMenti program is to address food insecurity by engaging university students in various volunteer activities. Through sorting and packaging food items, raising awareness about food donations, and developing innovative solutions, the program aims to make a significant impact in reducing hunger in the community.
Outcome
The NutriMenti program offers students diverse volunteering opportunities, ranging from hands-on tasks like sorting and packaging food to participating in awareness campaigns and innovation projects. By actively participating in these activities, students not only contribute to a vital cause but also gain valuable skills in project management, teamwork, and community service.

Research
Extensive research among university students revealed their enthusiasm for volunteering in activities aligned with their values and interests. Surveys and focus groups provided insights into students' motivations and preferences, guiding the development of NutriMenti. As an initiative under Banco Alimentare, NutriMenti closely aligns with the organization's mission to combat food insecurity, leveraging its resources and expertise. NutriMenti offers diverse volunteering opportunities, empowering students to make a positive impact on their communities while developing valuable skills.
Insights
Throughout the project, several insights emerged:
Volunteering offers students a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, community leaders, and professionals in the non-profit sector, expanding their network and understanding of community service.
Involving students in innovation projects fosters creativity and encourages them to think critically about solutions to complex societal issues.
Offering university credits for volunteering hours incentivizes student participation and facilitates the conversion of volunteering hours into academic credits.
Ideation
To enhance the NutriMenti program, several ideas were explored:
Creating network events with partner companies to provide students with career exploration opportunities.
Offering educational workshops or short courses on food education and sustainability to raise public awareness about Banco Alimentare's cause.
Expanding volunteer benefits to include discounts on gym memberships, sports activities, books, supplies, and event tickets to incentivize student participation.
